POLICE USE-OF-FORCE CASE LAW
The Complete Trainer
INSTRUCTOR GUIDE
SECOND EDITION
PowerPoint Version – CD

"A must have for every law enforcement instructor."
Larry Nichols, Sr. Rangemaster/Armorer, Burbank PD

Every police officer knows about Tennessee vs. Garner, a landmark use of force case, but do you know the impact of Van Ham vs. City of Aurora regarding the lethality of certain baton strikes, or what Liebenstien vs. Crowe determined is "reasonable force?"

Police Use-of-Force Case Law - The Complete Trainer - Instructor Guide answers these and other legal questions about police use of force. Designed as an Instructor's Guide, this teaching manual covers the legal facts and force ramifications of 84 of the most significant Federal, state, and local use of force rulings which establish legal standards in the U.S. today. This is not like other use of force books written by lawyers that simply tell police officers "what they MUST DO." This manual tells police officers...in plain language..."what they CAN DO!"

The Instructor Guide cover 14 specific use of force issues:
Liability Statues
Training
Control Hold
Handcuff Morbidity
Impact Weapon
Canine
Medical Care
Carotid Control
Lethal Force
In-Custody Lethal Force
Diversionary Devices
SWAT
Destruction of Property
Pursuit

Each of the 84 cases covered has two components:

1. Instructor Notes provide the instructor with additional information, teaching guides, and implied discussion suggestions.
2. A PowerPoint teaching slide for students to view that explains the case, the ruling, and the ramifications for officers.

The Manual is self-contained on a single CD. It contains:

1. The Case Slides and Instructor Notes in PowerPoint 2007.
2. The Case Slides and Instructor Notes in PowerPoint 1997-2003.
3. Instructor Notes in PDF for printing.
4. Table of Contents with Case Index and Best Use suggestions in PDF for printing.
